Apollo 13 Revisited ~ February 8, 2013

Emily is into Space in a big way and when Michelle found out there was a play in Winston-Salem re-enacting the Apollo 13 mission, she bought tickets for her, Josh, Emily and myself.

This was a Play that included audience participation.  Above is the command center.

The tickets that Michelle bought for Emily and myself were console seats in the command center.  “Houston, we have a problem!”   So we had to participate in brainstorming to help find solutions for the troubled mission.

It was fun and very interesting.  You will be glad to know that we successfully brought the capsule with it’s three astronauts to splashdown.

ISS Mission Complete ~ 1/29/13

We had a mystery guest show up at our ISS Sleepover.

We finally discovered that it was Commander Emily C. Cates, veteran of shuttles Expedition and Enterprise.  Very impressive!!!

We celebrated with a large brownie decorated with somewhat of a copy of the ISS.

We also had a young future ISS commander drop by who smelled the brownies.

Well, onto the viewing.  Emily and I got up at 6:15am and went out to watch the ISS go over between 6:40 and 6:47am.  We were not disappointed; it showed up right on time and was a very brilliant light that went from West to East.  It seemed so close we thought at first it was an airplane.  It had a quiet grace to it that was pretty amazing.  We can hardly wait to see it again the next time that it will be as bright.  The ISS circles the earth every 91 minutes, but can’t always be seen.

To all of you, just keep looking UP!
