Davidson Co. Agricultural Fair

Dustin and Amber had a booth for ADVOCARE at the fair this year so Abby, Davis, Jackson and I came over one afternoon to eat, see the animals and exhibits, and ride the rides.

The kids went on every single kid ride and loved it.

Dustin came with us when we went on the rides which was very helpful.  He lifted them on and off and in and out of all sorts of rides, even going on some himself.IMG_0008
CUTE!

He says he can’t wait until they get older and they can go on his size rides with him.  Watch out!
This is where my batteries gave out on my camera and the rest are on my iphone which I still have to download.

Lexington Youth Rodeo

Some friends from our church told us that The History Channel was coming to do a piece on the Davidson Co. Youth Rodeo and it was going to be free.  Sooooo free sounded good so we went.  There were  3 others families there that we knew and the kids had a blast. It was pretty interesting especially when one of the riders and his horse, right after coming out of the chute, came straight at us and slammed into the fence in front of us.  Ouch!*

The kids couldn’t stay off of the fence.

IMG_5657

Watching the tractor level out the ground was pretty interesting to them.

IMG_5661

Did you notice that in every picture Jackson is on the fence?  That’s Jackson!  Hmmm, but I don’t see Davis.IMG_5662

IMG_5663

We had to wait quite a while before it got started so the girls started getting creative with the dirt.

IMG_5664

The riders did a nice flag presentation opening the rodeo.

Abby’s 5th Birthday Party

Abby had her birthday party at Cheermania, a very popular place with the kids.

They have several types of slides, mats for running and doing flips, cartwheels, roll around padded items, etc.

This is a pit with foam blocks that you can jump into,

or slide into.

Abby’s party had a Minnie Mouse theme.  It’s hard to tell by this picture with the candles in the cupcake but it’s suppose to look like Minnie Mouse.  Amber made homemade Oreo cookies ‘n’ cream popcorn.

Meadowview Fall Festival ~ 10/19/13

This is the 2nd year  that our church has hosted a Fall Festival that’s free for the community.   Everything is free; food, pony rides, bounce houses and slides, games with prizes for the kids, a cake walk etc. etc. and a concert at the end.

IMG_0150

I volunteered for the kitchen where I worked with these ladies to cook hotdogs, and put them in the buns,  1400 of them.

IMG_0152

These ladies are stirring chili for the hotdogs.

IMG_0153

Those roasters are filled with chili and beans to be served separately.  It’s known as “bomb chili.”  I didn’t ask the story behind the name.

IMG_0154

It was a drizzly day but we still had over 1100 people turn out for the event.

IMG_0156

We had over 200 volunteers from the church.

A slow moment at the cotton candy, popcorn, and beverage stands.

IMG_0158

We all brought cakes for the cake walk (these are the ones I baked) and we all  brought fall candy  for the kid’s games.

Everyone seemed to have a great time, we sure did in the kitchen.  I look forward to next year!

Hot Air Balloon Festival ~ 10/18/13

Statesville has had a Hot Air Balloon Festival for 40 years and we just found out about it on Friday.  Dustin had the day off so we threw blankets, chairs cameras, and jackets in the car and headed on over.

IMG_0085

There were tons of venders, selling every kind of food imaginable, a kids zone with bounce houses and over 40 Hot Air Balloons.

IMG_0092

Abby and the boys were fascinated with my binoculars.

IMG_0095

We got there around 3:30pm and they started blowing up the balloons around 4:30pm.

IMG_0097

The trucks parked in and around the people and then the balloons started popping up all around us.

I was between these two balloons when they started to go up.

IMG_0114

This one was, of course, the kids favorite one.

IMG_0129

Abby wanted to take a picture with my camera, so she started snapping pictures of everything she could find which included me.

IMG_0130

Just as we were leaving these two balloons started to be blown up.  Pretty cool!  We didn’t know what the one on the left was but the one on the right is what’s his name, the skunk.

IMG_0144

We will definitely go again next year.  The kids were free and adults were $5.
